Welcome!
I initially was painting poppies from the poppy fields near Logan, UT. However, as I painted, it seemed boring. So I got my scrapers out and began layering the gouache so that I ended up with a more abstract view of what I thought I saw. Mary Pusey 2024
My artwork is born of an interest in color and value. Nature is my most common subject. Be it a grand vista or a tiny view, it inspires me everywhere I go. A spark of color or the juxtaposition of dark against light inspires me to try to paint it!
I take sketches and studies into my studio to work into larger paintings. I paint from photos, but the freshness of the plein air studies allows me to remember the wonderful colors and light that no photograph can show. As a result, my paintings are representations of what I see and feel, not necessarily of what is actually there. Mary Pusey 2016
